Pine Haven Christian Communities has partnered with Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice to provide a comprehensive palliative care program. This specialized program will aid residents who struggle with chronic illness and pain.
You’ve probably heard of hospice, but palliative care is different. Our residents and their family members receive comfort and stress relief within this program.
Palliative Care vs. Hospice: What’s the Difference?
Both services share a common goal: they both offer relief. However, palliative care has different treatment timelines and end goals. Recognizing when you need this level of care is essential so you can make the most of your daily life.
Hospice Provides End-of-Life Care
Hospice care provides end-of-life care and assistance to patients and their family members. These programs focus heavily on maintaining the patient’s comfort and easing their transition out of life.
Hospice provides many of the same services as palliative care, like pain management. However, hospice care is short-term and suitable for terminal patients.
Palliative Care Focuses on Pain Management
For those with severe diagnoses, this type of care is essential. These services aim to reduce pain and manage medical care as efficiently as possible. When living with chronic pain and illness, this can provide mountains of relief.
People of any age can receive palliative care. Our goal at Pine Haven is to keep our residents with this level of care comfortable and safe.
While Palliative Care can be seen as end-of-life care, benefits can be seen even before this stage. These services can be implemented once an appropriate diagnosis for a qualifying condition has been determined.
Qualifying Conditions for Palliative Care
Not sure if you’ll benefit from palliative care? We have the information you need to make an informed decision.
In general, any severe long-term illness tends to qualify for palliative care for pain management purposes. Palliative care can also relieve psychological symptoms of diseases like anxiety and depression.
Common conditions that qualify patients for palliative care include:
- Cancer
- Heart failure
- Heart disease
- Kidney failure
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke
- Cystic fibrosis
- Lung disease
- Bone marrow disorders
- Liver disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Dementia
After diagnosis, your medical team will present your options to you. In some cases, as diseases progress toward terminal illnesses, patients can transfer from palliative care to hospice care.
Bringing Relief and Comfort to Our Communities
Our new palliative care program will change lives. While we already offer various therapy services and long-term care, we saw the need for additional pain management services to provide better care for our residents. Our assisted living and independent senior living can utilize this program, too.
Integrating Palliative Care into Our Senior Care Services
We saw the need for comfort care in our communities and addressed it. Our partnership with Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice allows us to provide good care for seniors with chronic illness and pain.
In Pine Haven Christian Communities, we offer the following senior care services:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Medication management
- Assisted living
We’ve added palliative care to the list so you can get the help you need from your senior community.
