Our care team at Pine Haven Christian Communities focuses on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of our residents. We collaborate and partner with healthcare agencies that help us provide a holistic approach to care.
End-of-life services are no different when providing a holistic approach to care. In this month’s partner spotlight, we feature Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice (SSRCH). They are a hospice service helping to improve quality of life during the most difficult times.
What kind of services does Sharon S. Richardson provide?
Since 2007, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice has served community members throughout six counties in southeastern Wisconsin. They offer palliative and hospice services in care facilities, private residences, or, when appropriate, their specialized Inpatient Center. Their hospice medical director is board certified in both palliative care and hospice medicine.
Hospice Services:
Hospice is a philosophy of care focused on supporting residents and their family members during a life-limiting illness. While residents of Pine Haven receive services and support from our in-house team, a partnership with hospice care teams provides an extra layer of specialized care.
In addition to support, hospice plays a very important role in our residents’ quality of life. It enhances our clinical care allowing our residents to remain in a familiar setting, like their apartment.
Working in partnership with a hospice care team like SSRCH:
- Expert medical care
- Symptom and pain management
- Emotional and spiritual support based on the needs and wishes of each resident
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice is extremely responsive and a great local asset to our community. Their communication with families and our staff is reliable, consistent, and thorough.
Their reputation was recognized by HEALTHCAREfirst in 2021. They were named a Hospice Honors recipient. Hospice Honors recognizes hospices that provide the highest level of quality as measured from the caregiver’s point of view.
Palliative Care Services:
In addition to hospice services, the Richardson Palliative Care program is for residents and patients who require palliative care. Richardson Palliative Care recognizes the challenges and stress experienced by those living with a severe illness and those caring for them.
The Richardson Palliative Care team:
- Provides relief of symptoms
- Assists with emotional support
- Coordinates care amongst doctors
- Assists with obtaining necessary resources
- Helps residents better understand their illness and what to expect
Their palliative care specialists take the time to get to know each person and understand what is most important.
Resale Store:
The Richardson Hospice Resale Store is a unique service provided to our communities from our communities. Donations to the store are displayed for community members to shop. Items purchased contribute to the Hospice Patient Care Fund.
The Richardson Hospice Resale Store offers a volunteer experience that is both meaningful and impactful. The store relies heavily on volunteers to help with day-to-day operations.
What makes Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice unique?
Experience the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Difference:
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice was founded on a love story between a husband and wife. Their love extended throughout the community, and they wanted to help others in similar situations. When Joe Richardson II's wife Sharon was battling cancer, the need for an inpatient hospice center was recognized.
This need would provide dignity and comfort to those on their end-of-life journey. Today, their team cares for individuals in their homes, senior living communities, and when appropriate, at their Inpatient Center.
"Our entire family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the extraordinary care that was given to our father. Dad was treated with respect, dignity, care, and compassion each and every day that he was there. I pray that all of you realize how much that meant to each of us."
The Inpatient Center
The Inpatient Center is dedicated to those in need of 24-hour skilled nursing care for acute pain and symptom management. The Inpatient Center also supports families through the demands of caregiving with respite care. Each spacious suite has a private bathroom and a patio that overlooks their gardens and pond.
Honoring our Veterans
In 2021, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice served 143 veteran patients within their We Honor Veterans (WHV) program. Veterans in hospice care are recognized for their service through veteran pinning ceremonies and volunteer pairings between veterans for companionship.
Their interdisciplinary team is trained in caring for the unique needs of veterans at the end of life. Their WHV program has earned five stars, the highest level of attainment within WHV.
Volunteers are Essential
Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring residents and patients receive the individual attention they need. Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice care team relies on volunteers to provide social and emotional support to residents and patients. Their We Honor Veterans (WHV) and No One Dies Alone (NODA) programs are no exception. Their WHV and NODA volunteers are special volunteers who provide unique end-of-life services.
