Save A Life/Donate Blood on Jan 26 at Pine Haven’s Red Cross Blood Drive

On January 26, 2017, the Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Pine Haven Christian Communities’ Haven Drive campus, located at 220 Haven Drive in Sheboygan Falls, from 1pm until 6pm.

Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

Currently, the drive is scheduled to run from 1 pm until 6 pm, but those hours may be expanded if a large enough donor base signs up to donate.

There are three ways those interested in donating can sign up for a time to donate:

  1. Visit https://www.redcrossblood.org and entering in the Sponsor Code “Pine Haven” in the blue box in the upper right corner of the page, selecting the drive and signing up for a slot;
  2. Call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule a time;
  3. Contact Karin Oliver-Kreft at Pine Haven Christian Communities at 920-550-5227 or via email at koliver-kreft@pinehaven.org.

This event is part of Pine Haven’s Learning For Life program that provides educational sessions on topics of interest to the community. During the blood drive, donors will not only donate blood that can save lives, but they will be able to learn more about the Red Cross – what it does and how it saves lives.

Learning For Life: National Healthcare Decisions Day

National Healthcare Decisions Day is on April 16th, and Pine Haven will be supporting this with the first in their Learning For Life educational community seminars.

Pine Haven Christian Communities announced they will hold community learning events each month in the community center at their Haven Drive campus in north Sheboygan Falls. This series of educational events is open to the public and will feature a new topic each month. The events are free to attend, and will take place one Saturday each month, at 10:30 am.

“You’re never to old to learn – and there are a lot of subjects that are of interest to our residents and their families. We decided to create these learning events, to help bring the wider community onto our campus,” said Pine Haven’s director of marketing & community outreach, Karin Oliver-Kreft. “When people come onto our campus, they bring energy and excitement that our residents really enjoy. So, our plan is to have a wide variety of topics throughout the year, so that they’ll be of interest to as many people as possible.”

The first event will be held on April 16th, which is National Healthcare Decisions Day. Speaking at this event will be Christine Freund from the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resources Center), who will explain advance care planning, why it’s important and help guide attendees on how to get started. RSVPs are not necessary, but you can list your attendance on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/events/188814388162622/.
