Pine Haven Christian Home
Earns Highest Rating In
Quality Assurance Surveys
Sheboygan Falls, WI -- Pine
Haven Christian Home earned deficiency-free reviews in two separate surveys
recently completed.
The State of Wisconsin
Bureau of Quality Assurance (BQA), as part of the Department of Health and
Human Services, conducts unannounced surveys to assure Wisconsin senior care
facilities meet state and federal regulations. Nursing homes are surveyed
annually and residential assisted living facilities are surveyed every other
year. Pine Haven’s skilled nursing home, with 71 beds, was surveyed in
January. Pine Haven’s Residential Center, with 140 licensed beds, completed
the survey process in late April.
The BQA sends a number of
surveyors who can spend up to four days examining every aspect of the
facility’s operation. Some of the areas covered are resident rights,
admissions, nursing and rehab services, quality of care and life, and the
physical environment. The surveyors determine compliance through observing
staff care for residents, interviewing residents and family members, and
investigating medical records.
There are more than 1,500
regulations and standards that senior care facilities must meet for the
surveys. In Wisconsin, four deficiencies per facility is average; nationally
the average is seven. If a facility’s deficiencies are serious enough, there
may be a fine(s) or closure. The deficiency-free rating for the staff and
facility at Pine Haven is outstanding.
“The citation free surveys
are further assurance that Pine Haven places a great deal of emphasis on
quality care. The successful surveys are the result of thorough preparation
by the entire staff and the leadership of Cathy Kelling, Director of Nursing
and Barb TeStroete,
Assistant Director of Nursing. Everyone is committed to the
mission of Pine Haven to
provide all we serve a Christ-centered safe haven, offering quality,
compassionate care,” says Jeff Jenkins, Administrator.
Pine Haven Christian Home
was opened in 1950 and expanded in 1992 to the
current size of 71 residents
in the nursing home wing and 140 beds in the residential
center wing. While supported
by eighteen local churches, residents of all faiths and backgrounds are
welcome. Pine Haven’s mission is to provide quality, compassionate care in a
Christian environment.
